The Republic of India, is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second-most populous country, and the most populous democracy in the world with an estimated population of 1.17 billion. Economic reforms since 1991 have transformed it into one of the fastest growing economies. It has the world’s second largest labour force, with 516.3 million people.
India’s diverse economy encompasses traditional village farming, modern agriculture, handicrafts, a wide range of modern industries, and a multitude of services. Services are the major source of economic growth, accounting for more than half of India’s output with less than one third of its labor force. Slightly more than half of the work force is in agriculture.
